Jean S. Laws has been a partner in the Salisbury law firm of Laws, Insley & Benson P.A. since 1984. Prior to that, she was an associate with Nolan, Plumhoff & Williams in Towson, MD, a staff attorney with the Legal Aid Bureau of the Lower Eastern Shore, and a staff attorney with the National Center for State Courts in Williamsburg, VA.

Jean now has a general civil law practice with a focus on estate planning, estate administration, guardianships, and business & corporate law. In addition to her regular practice, Jean is general counsel for MAC, Inc., Area Agency on Aging, which serves the four counties of the Lower Eastern Shore.

Jean has served on the Board of Directors of many non-profit corporations on the Lower Eastern Shore. She is currently the vice-president of the Board of Trustees of the Parsons Foundation, an organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of senior citizens in Wicomico County. She has served as a gubernatorial appointment to the Judicial Nominating Committee of the First Judicial Circuit, and the First Judicial Circuit Vice-Chair of the Maryland State Bar Association Committee on the Resolution of Fee Disputes.

Jean has taught courses on Constitutional Law and Civil Rights & Civil Liberties for the Political Science Department at Salisbury University. She has also taught Business Law for the Perdue School of Business at Salisbury University and for Wor-Wic Community College. Mrs. Laws has been asked to speak throughout the Eastern Shore on elder law, estate planning issues, and business law matters.
